Spanish to English, the way people actually talk

Real SonicMeet captions from our tests: Mexican and Argentine Spanish, English mixed in, big numbers.

Mexico and Central America

The report is already in; can you check it?Ya quedó el reporte, ¿lo checas?

“Ya quedó” (it’s done) and “checar” (to check) are everyday Mexican Spanish, and both came through.

Argentina and Uruguay

The report is really good, man.El informe está re bueno, che.

“Re” means “really” and “che” is a friendly “hey”. The caption reads them the way a local would.

Spanish with English mixed in

We're going to schedule a call with the client.Vamos a agendar una call con el cliente.

Common in US and Latin American teams: the English word stays a call, and “agendar” (to schedule) comes through.

Big numbers

The investment is 1.5 billion.La inversión es de 1.500 millones.

Spanish writes 1.500 millones for what English calls 1.5 billion. The caption converts it, so you don’t have to.

Names, slang and very fast speech can still slip. Every caption keeps the Spanish underneath, so you can check it at a glance.

In your meetings: Instant or Accurate?

The translator on this page runs in Instant. The extension and the desktop app let you trade a few seconds for steadier sentences.

Questions about the Spanish to English voice translator

Is this Spanish to English translator free?

Yes for 2 minutes on this page, no sign-up. SonicMeet itself needs a Google sign-in: new accounts get 20 minutes free, one time, and paid plans start at $10 a month.

Does it speak the English out loud?

No. It shows the English as text on your screen, with the Spanish in smaller type under each line, and nothing is played aloud. If the other side needs to hear English, Google Meet’s speech translation can do that on some paid plans; the table above has the details.

Can it translate a Zoom or Google Meet call?

Not from this page: it only hears your microphone. The SonicMeet extension translates the call’s own audio and shows the captions on top of Google Meet, Zoom or Teams in Chrome or Edge. The Windows and Mac app does the same for any call app.

Can the Spanish speaker see the English?

Only if you show them your screen. The captions appear on your device only. Nothing is added to the call, and nobody else has to install anything.

Does it translate both ways at once?

No. It translates one direction at a time: Spanish into English, or English into Spanish after you press the swap button. In a back-and-forth conversation, swap when the other person starts talking.

Which Spanish accents does it understand?

Speakers from Mexico, the Caribbean, the Río de la Plata, the Andes and Spain all use the same Spanish setting, so you don’t pick a country. Very fast speech and loud background noise lower accuracy, as with any speech recognition.

Does it translate in real time?

Yes. The Spanish appears word by word as it’s spoken, and the English follows a phrase at a time, a moment behind. Each sentence is fully translated within about a second of the speaker finishing it. In the extension and the desktop app you can switch to Accurate, which runs roughly 1 to 5 seconds behind Instant but translates whole sentences.

Is my audio recorded?

No. Audio is sent to SonicMeet and our speech provider to be processed live, and we don’t keep an audio recording.
