Live translation for WhatsApp calls, on your computer
WhatsApp can translate a text on your phone, but not what people say on a call. SonicMeet shows bilingual, real-time captions for WhatsApp voice and video calls on your computer, in the desktop app or WhatsApp Web, and keeps the transcript.
Message translation works on messages you tap and hold in the phone app, and runs on the device; it isn't in the WhatsApp Business app. Voice message transcripts are in the phone app too, for a handful of languages (English, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian on Android), and they come out untranslated. Voice and video calls get neither.
A call reaches your computer three ways.
The WhatsApp desktop app for Windows or Mac. WhatsApp Web, which added voice and video calls in 2026 and is still rolling out, in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. Or Call transfer, which moves a call you're on to another device linked to your account, but only group calls and calls started from a call link. A one-to-one call stays on the device it started on.
Where do you take your WhatsApp calls?
SonicMeet runs on your computer, next to WhatsApp. Pick the one that matches how you call.
Best for calls
In the WhatsApp desktop app
SonicMeet for Windows or Mac hears the call the way you do, whichever window it opens in. Nothing to change inside WhatsApp.
Captions what plays in the WhatsApp tab: voice messages, video messages, anything you press play on. A call that opens in its own window is outside that tab, so for calls use the desktop app.
The desktop app for Windows or Mac, or the extension for WhatsApp Web in Chrome or Edge. Sign in with Google; free to start.

Translation on top, original right under it. The whole transcript is saved when you finish.
Instant while you chat. Accurate when the details matter.
Both on every plan, switchable mid-call from Settings in the caption area.
Default
Instant
Translates as the words arrive, with sub-second delay, so you can answer without an awkward pause.
Best for: family calls, quick check-ins, catching up.
Full-sentence translation
Accurate
Waits for the full sentence and uses a stronger model with far more context, so names, numbers and addresses land right. Runs roughly 1 to 5 seconds behind Instant.
Best for: client calls, prices and delivery dates, anything you will act on.

WhatsApp call translation FAQ
Does WhatsApp have live translation for calls?
No. WhatsApp can translate text messages in the phone app and transcribe some voice messages, but voice and video calls have no captions and no translation. SonicMeet adds both on your computer: bilingual, real-time captions of the call in any of 60+ languages, and a transcript you keep.
Can I translate a WhatsApp call on my phone?
Not with SonicMeet; it runs on Windows and Mac. Take the call in WhatsApp on your computer instead, or, for group calls and call links, move it there mid-call with WhatsApp's Call transfer. Some phones translate calls on their own: on supported Samsung Galaxy models, Galaxy AI Live Translate works in WhatsApp calls.
Does it work with WhatsApp Web calls?
Yes, with the desktop app. SonicMeet for Windows and Mac hears the call whatever window or browser it's in, Safari and Firefox included. The extension for Chrome and Edge captions what plays in the WhatsApp tab, like voice and video messages; a call that opens in its own window is outside that tab. WhatsApp is still rolling out calling on the web, so if you don't see the call buttons yet, use the WhatsApp desktop app.
Can I move a WhatsApp call from my phone to my computer?
Some calls. WhatsApp's Call transfer moves group voice calls, group video calls and calls started from a call link to another device linked to your account, and the call then ends on the first one. A one-to-one call can't be transferred, so if you know you'll want translation, start it from your computer or send a call link.
Does it work in WhatsApp group calls?
Yes. Group calls work in the desktop app and in WhatsApp Web, where video calls take up to 32 people, and SonicMeet captions whoever is speaking. If people switch languages, leave Source on Auto Detect.
Can it translate WhatsApp voice messages?
Yes, on your computer. Open the chat in WhatsApp Web or the desktop app, start SonicMeet, then play the voice message: the translation appears as it plays and stays in your transcript. WhatsApp's own voice message transcripts are in the phone app, for a handful of languages (English, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian on Android), and they aren't translated.
Is it private? WhatsApp calls are end-to-end encrypted.
WhatsApp's encryption protects the call on its way between devices. SonicMeet works after that, on the audio your computer plays: it sends that audio to SonicMeet and its speech provider for real-time processing, and we don't keep an audio recording. So the call is no longer only between the two devices. If a conversation has to stay that way, don't run SonicMeet, or any other captioning tool, on it.
Will the other person know I'm using it?
Nothing shows up in the call: SonicMeet isn't a participant and doesn't connect to your WhatsApp account. If you keep a transcript, tell the people on the call. It's the decent thing to do, and in some places the law requires consent before a conversation is recorded or transcribed.
Can the other person see or hear the translation?
No. Captions appear only on your screen, and SonicMeet doesn't speak translations out loud. If they need your words translated too, they can run SonicMeet on their own computer.
Does it work with WhatsApp Business?
Yes. A WhatsApp Business account links to WhatsApp Web and the desktop app like a personal one, and SonicMeet works the same way there. WhatsApp's own message translation isn't in the Business app yet.
How accurate is the translation?
Two modes, chosen per call. Instant translates as the words arrive with sub-second delay. Accurate waits for the complete sentence and translates it with a stronger model and far more surrounding context, which makes a visible difference on names, numbers and natural phrasing, roughly 1 to 5 seconds behind Instant. Switch from Settings in the caption area at any time.
Is it free?
Yes to start. Install SonicMeet, sign in with Google, and you get a one-time 20 minutes of free captions with both translation modes, enough to try it on a real call. Paid plans add hours for regular calls.
