Can't sign in with Google
SonicMeet signs you in with Google, so almost every failure happens between your browser and Google. Start with the first section: it covers most cases.
The Google window closed before you finished
In the extension, Continue with Google opens a separate Google window where you choose your account. If that window is closed early, you click Cancel, or it's left for more than 10 minutes, SonicMeet shows no error: the button simply goes back to Continue with Google. This is the most common reason sign-in seems to do nothing.
- 1Close any other Google sign-in windows
Only one sign-in window can be open at a time.
- 2Click Continue with Google again and finish every step
Keep the Google window open, choose your account, and go through every screen until the window closes by itself.
- 3Open the SonicMeet icon again
If sign-in worked, the popup now shows your languages and the start button.
Google doesn't load on your network
Signing in needs your browser to reach Google's sign-in pages and Google's sign-in service. If your network blocks either one, the Google window stays blank or shows an error, or sign-in fails right after you choose your account. No setting in SonicMeet can get around that.
- 1Open accounts.google.com in the same browser
If it doesn't load, the network is the problem.
- 2Try another network
A phone hotspot is the quickest test. If sign-in works there, your usual network (a company firewall, a school network, a VPN or a regional block) is blocking Google.
- 3Turn your VPN on or off
Both directions are worth trying: a VPN can be what makes Google reachable, or what gets in the way.
Google shows its own error page
If Google itself shows an error inside the sign-in window, the account you picked may not be allowed to sign in to third-party apps. This is common with work and school accounts. Try a personal Google account, or ask your administrator.
Desktop app: stuck on “Signing in…” or “Couldn't reach Google”
- After you click Sign in with Google, finish signing in in the browser tab that opens, within 5 minutes, then go back to the app. If you closed that tab, the app waits until the 5 minutes are up; to retry sooner, quit SonicMeet from the tray and open it again.
- Couldn't reach Google. Please check your network connection and try again. right after you turn on your computer usually means SonicMeet started before the network was ready. Click Sign in with Google again: if your sign-in is still valid, it reconnects without opening the browser.
- The same message at any other time means the app couldn't reach Google or our servers. Check your connection, proxy or VPN, as described above. The desktop app follows your system proxy settings.
- We couldn't sign you in. Please try again. If this keeps happening, contact us and tell us when it happens.
Still stuck
Tell us three things and we can usually help in one reply: extension or desktop app, what happens when you click the sign-in button (nothing, a blank window, an error), and whether accounts.google.com opens on that network.
Common questions
Why does SonicMeet need a Google account?
Signing in with Google is the only sign-in method. It ties your plan, minutes and saved sessions to you across the browser extension and the desktop app, which is also why a network that blocks Google can't complete sign-in.
Sign-in works on my phone's hotspot but not on my office network. Why?
The office network is blocking Google sign-in. Ask whoever runs it to allow accounts.google.com and googleapis.com, or sign in once on another network.
Does it matter which Chrome profile or account my browser is signed in to?
No. The extension signs you in through its own Google window, and you can choose or add any Google account there.
