Upgrading from one paid plan to another: charges, hours and AI credits
This is for moving from one paid plan to a higher one, such as Starter to Pro, or from monthly to yearly billing. The change takes effect right away: you pay only the difference for the rest of your billing period, keep the hours you have left, and get extra hours immediately.
How to upgrade
- 1Click Upgrade
In the extension popup, or Upgrade plan in the desktop app's account menu. SonicMeet opens the plans page in your browser, already signed in.
- 2Pick a plan
Choose Monthly or Yearly billing; yearly saves about 17%. Your plan is marked Current Plan, and higher plans show Switch to This Plan.
- 3Check the amount and confirm
Confirm Plan Change shows the amount Due today and your next bill. Click Confirm Change and the new plan starts right away.
What you pay
The change is charged to your saved card straight away, prorated for the time left in your billing period:
| Change | Charged today | Your next bill |
|---|---|---|
| To a higher plan on the same billing cycle, such as Starter monthly → Pro monthly | The price difference for the rest of the current period: you're credited for the unused portion of your old plan's billing period and charged for the rest of the period on the new one | The new plan's full price, on your usual billing date |
| Monthly → yearly | The yearly price, minus a credit for the remaining part of your current monthly billing period | One year from the day you switch: switching to yearly starts a new billing period that day |
If the payment doesn't go through, nothing changes: you stay on your current plan and can try again after updating your card.
What happens to your hours
You keep every hour you have left, and extra hours are added on top right away:
| Change | Extra hours added now | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly → higher monthly plan | The difference between the two plans' monthly hours, for the share of your billing period that's left | Starter (5 h) → Pro (15 h) with half the month left: (15 − 5) × ½ = +5 hours |
| Monthly → yearly | The yearly plan's hours minus your current monthly plan's hours | Starter monthly (5 h) → Starter yearly (60 h): +55 hours. Pro monthly (15 h) → Pro yearly (180 h): +165 hours |
| Yearly → higher yearly plan | The full difference between the two yearly amounts | Starter yearly (60 h) → Pro yearly (180 h): +120 hours |
From your next billing date you get the new plan's full amount, as usual. Extra hours packs you've bought aren't affected by an upgrade.
What happens to your AI credits
They're reset to the new plan's full amount right away, whatever you had left. Upgrade from Starter to Pro and you have 60 AI credits straight away; switch from Pro monthly to Pro yearly and you have 720.
Moving to a lower plan
- The plans page doesn't offer lower plans, and yearly subscribers can't switch back to monthly there. Contact us if you want to move down.
- When a plan moves down, the hours and AI credits you have now stay until your next billing date. After that you get the lower plan's amount.
Common questions
Do I lose the hours I have left when I upgrade?
No. You keep every hour you have left, and extra hours are added on top right away. How many depends on the plans and, for monthly upgrades, on how much of your billing period is left.
Why wasn't I charged the new plan's full price?
Upgrades are prorated: you pay the difference for the rest of your current billing period and get credit for the unused portion of your old plan's billing period. From your next billing date you pay the new plan's full price.
Does upgrading change my billing date?
Not if you stay on the same billing cycle, monthly to monthly or yearly to yearly. Switching from monthly to yearly starts a new yearly billing period on the day you switch.
I'm on the free plan. Does buying a plan work the same way?
No. Buying your first plan is a regular purchase: you pay the plan's full price, your billing period starts that day, and you get the plan's full hours and AI credits, which replace any free minutes you had left. Proration only applies when you move from one paid plan to another.
