The desktop app won't update
Updates download on their own but only install when SonicMeet restarts. Most “stuck on an old version” cases are one of the two below.
The update downloaded but never installed
Closing the window doesn't quit SonicMeet: it keeps running in the tray (the menu bar on a Mac), so a downloaded update just waits. Install it with any of these:
- Settings → About → Restart & install
- The Restart button on the update banner at the top of the window
- The tray menu → Restart to update
- Or quit with Quit SonicMeet in the tray menu: the update installs as SonicMeet closes.
“Last update check failed”
If Settings → About says Last update check failed. Will retry in the background., or Check for updates says Could not contact the update server., the app couldn't reach our update server. This often happens on networks that block some sites but not others, so captions may keep working while updates fail.
- 1Try another network
Connect to a different network, such as a phone hotspot, and click Check for updates. If it works there, the first network is blocking the update server.
- 2Ask for the update server to be allowed
Company firewalls, VPNs and DNS filters sometimes block
files.sonicmeet.app. Ask whoever runs the network to allow it. - 3Or install the new version yourself
Download it from the download page, quit SonicMeet from the tray, and install over the current version. On a Mac, replace the app in your Applications folder with the new one for your chip.
Common questions
How do I check which version I have?
In the desktop app, open Settings → About. It shows your version and whether an update has been downloaded and is waiting to install.
Why does SonicMeet keep running after I close the window?
Closing the window hides SonicMeet to the tray (the menu bar on a Mac) so it can keep captions running in the background. To quit, choose Quit SonicMeet in the tray menu. A downloaded update installs when SonicMeet restarts or quits.
